Abstract:

In this paper, a novel risk-based, two-objective (technical and economical) OPTIMAL reactive POWER dispatch method in a wind-integrated POWER system is proposed which is more consistent with operational criteria.  The technical objective includes the minimization of the new voltage instability risk index. The economical objective includes cost minimization of reactive POWER generation and active POWER loss. The proposed voltage instability risk employs a hybrid possibilistic (Delphi-Fuzzy)-probabilistic approach that takes into consideration the operator’s experience, the wind speed and demand forecast uncertainties when quantifying the risk index. The decision variables are the reactive POWER resources of the system. To solve the problem, the modified multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm with sine and cosine acceleration coefficients is utilized. The method is implemented on the modified IEEE 30-bus system. The proposed method is compared with those in the previously published literature, and the results confirm that the proposed risk index is better at estimating the voltage instability risk of the system, especially in cases with severe impact and low probability. In addition, according to the simulation results compared to typical security-based planning, the proposed risk-based planning may increase the security and economy of the system due to better utilization of system resources.

Abstract:

The problem of OPTIMAL economic operation of hydrothermal electric POWER systems is solved using POWERful continuation method. While in conventional approach, fixed generation voltages are used to avoid convergence problems, in the proposed algorithm, they are treated as variables so that better solutions can be obtained. The algorithm is tested for a typical 5-bus and 17-bus New Zealand networks. Its capabilities and promising results are assessed.

Abstract:

In this paper two POWER elements for POWER controller in transmission line are presented: Variable Frequency Transformer (VFT) and Rotary POWER FLOW Controller (RPFC). In addition, here a new OPTIMAL POWER FLOW (OPF) with these elements is presented. In this paper, it has been made use of the Impedance and Admittance nonsymmetrical matrix and the matrix of loss or coefficient B are calculated in a new method. It has also been indicated that the system is not optimized if OPTIMAL POWER FLOW is not considered in locating and POWER of FLOW controller in line. The proposed method was applied to a 26-bus and 6-generator system and the results were satisfactory.

Abstract:

The recent state of electrical system comprises the conventional generating units along with the sources of renewable energy. The suggested article recommends a method for the solution of single and multi-objective OPTIMAL POWER FLOW, incorporating wind energy with traditional coal-based generating stations. In this article, the two thermal POWER plants are replaced with the wind POWER plants. The techno-economic analysis are done with this state of electrical system. In proposed work, Weibull probability distribution functions is used for calculating wind POWER output. A non-dominated sorting based multi-objective moth flame optimization technique is used for the optimization issue. The fuzzy decision-making approach is applied for extracting the best compromise solution. The results are authenticated though modified IEEE-30 bus test system, which is combined with wind and thermal generating plants.

Abstract:

In restructured POWER systems, Independent System Operator (ISO) uses a lot of tools to minimize the costs while delivering the POWER to consumers in a reliable and stable state. To minimize the costs, ISO uses security-constrained unit commitment (SCUC), and schedules unit reserves for reliability point of view. For stability point of view, ISO implements OPTIMAL POWER FLOW (OPF) to secure the bus voltage margins, and to reduce the losses. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed to include this OPTIMAL generation scheduling with transmission lines parameters, and a case study is implemented to verify the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:

IN THIS PAPER, FIRST, WE INTRODUCE UPFC MODEL AND DERIVE ITS EQUATIONS USING TWO POLE CIRCUIT PROPRIETIES. THEN WE EXPRESS OPTIMAL POWER FLOW (OPF). OBJECTIVE FUNCTION IN THE OPF, THAT IS TO BE MINIMIZED, IS TOTAL PRODUCTION COST FUNCTION OF THE GENERATORS. THE OPF CONSTRAINTS ARE GENERATORS, TRANSMISSION LINES AND UPFCS LIMITS. WE PROPOSE GENETIC ALGORITHM WITH AN EFFECTIVE FITNESS FUNCTION TO CONSIDER THE OBJECTIVE FUNCTION AND ALL EQUALITY AND INEQUALITY CONSTRAINTS. ALSO WE EXPLAIN IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS METHOD. WE DRIVE DC LOAD FLOW IN POWER SYSTEMS CONTAINED UPFC. DC LOAD FLOW IS USED TO SOLVE THE OPF PROBLEM. WE APPLY THE PROPOSED METHOD TO A TEST POWER SYSTEM AND STATE ITS RESULTS. THE RESULTS SHOW GOOD EFFICIENCY OF THE GENETIC ALGORITHM AND PROPOSED FITNESS FUNCTION TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH ALL GENERATION AND TRANSMISSION AND UPFC CONSTRAINTS. ALSO WE SHOW THAT THE UPFC CAN CONTROL THE POWER FLOW IN LINES AND HELP KEEP RE-DISPATCHED VALUES OF GENERATORS TO CLOSE TO PREFERRED SCHEDULES. THE UPFC CAN BRING THE SYSTEM INTO A FEASIBLE OPERATING CONDITION IN CASES WHERE SECURITY CANNOT BE ACCOMPLISHED WITH EXISTING NETWORK CAPACITIES AND MAY ALLOW MORE CONTRACTS TO BE HELD IN A RESTRUCTURED ENVIRONMENT.

Abstract:

This paper objective presents static synchronous series compensation FACTS device with biogeography based optimization (BBO) to deal for obtaining worthwhile POWER FLOW control. The biogeography based optimization method is utilized to find the OPTIMAL fitted child sets by surviving parents with the help of migration and mutation Jaipur process. The present BBO technique from the evolutionary strategy with static synchronous series compensator provides improved outcomes in comparison to other optimization methods. The simulation outcomes illustrate that the proposed BBO algorithm is efficacious, secure and correct to search the optimized values with SSSC based FACTS devices. The proposed method is considering the solution quality an optimistic substitute method for extricating the OPF problems. The simplification and effectiveness of this method are validated on the IEEE 57 bus and 75 bus Systems. In this paper, from the outcome results, it is clearly shown that the proposed technique execution can be properly and effectively applied to the OPTIMAL position of multiple OPF problems. i.e. BBO based algorithm with SSSC FACTS device is found better results when compared to without SSSC device in all aspects.

Abstract:

In the family of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) controllers, the distributed POWER FLOW controller (DPFC) can control POWERfully all the system's parameters like bus voltages magnitude, transmission angle, and line impedances with high redundancy and a wide range of compensation. In this paper, IEEE-14 bus IEEE-30 bus, and IEEE-118 bus systems are taken for the testing of the proposed approach. The OPTIMAL placement of the series and shunt converters of the DPFC is decided by the most critical bus and most critical line associated with that bus respectively. The sizing of the DPFC is decided based on the minimization of active POWER losses of the systems. The loss function is considered an objective function and the limits of the bus voltages magnitudes, bus voltage angles, thermal limits of the lines, and level of compensation of the DPFC are taken as the system's constraints. To solve complex problems in various fields, meta-heuristic optimizations are more popular. Among the meta-heuristic optimizers, the jellyfish optimizer is one that is based on the behavior of jellyfish in the ocean. The optimization of the objective function with constraints has been solved by time-varying acceleration coefficients (TVAC) particle swarm optimization (PSO), artificial bee colony (ABC), genetic algorithm (GA), and metaheuristic optimizer jellyfish methods. Results show that all the optimization techniques provide solutions with minimum losses. Among these methods, the solution of the jellyfish optimizer has the lowest active POWER losses, highest convergence rate, less number of iterations, and also takes less computational time.
